This spring and summer the friends have planned, thanks to the help of local councillors who have raised funds for us: The purchase and planting of native English hedgerow species. Putting a number of nesting boxes into trees. Cutting back over vigourous undergrowth. Then in the autumn we will be planting bulbs, and hopefully involving local schoolchildren.
There have been many very sucessful litter picks.Usually two a year. These have been a great success the whole park, is scavenged including the brook. Well done to all those that turned out.
The first two litter picks in 2007 only covered a 1/4 of the park in 4 hrs and completely filled the lorry. There was so much rubbish to remove. Now we can cover the whole park in 2hrs.
In recent times it was great to see a class of Ley Hilll School children helping us with the litter picks and bulb plantings. Well done to you all.
Over 50 bags of rubbish are removed on each pick.
The first formal meeting of the Friends took place at the Holloway Hall, November 29th 2008 at 11.00.
